What to Expect

  • Al Shindagha Museum is a cluster of 21 houses across Al Shindagha Historic District, next to Dubai Creek, dedicated to Emirati history, heritage and trade. Exhibits include the former royal residence of Dubai's ruling family and a dedicated Perfume House, and covering the main houses properly takes a few hours.
  • Inside, Al Maktoum Residence stands as the 19th century home of Dubai's former ruling family, while the Perfume House walks you through how Emirati fragrances and scented oils are made from natural ingredients.
  • Other houses cover traditional crafts, jewelry, food and healthcare, and pavilions such as Dubai Creek Birth of a City, Life on Land, Culture of the Sea and the Children's Pavilion use audio-visual displays to trace Dubai's growth from a trading post on the creek. Trained cultural guides are on hand throughout to point out details and add context to what you are seeing.
